In the years 70 European armed forces had plans for build Attack Helicopter, but most opted over the arm utility helicopters, however the Italy continued with the project of a helicopter attack. In 1978, Augusta began working on a project of attack helicopter for the Italian Army. The original idea was to modify the A109, but this idea was soon discarded and project was almost done from scratch.

In the year 1983 flew the first of five prototype of the "A129 Mangusta". With the success of the prototypes Augusta received order for production to 66 units which was later reduced to 60 units.

A129 Mangusta
The Mangusta is an attack helicopter with a typical configuration with the pilot and gunner in tandem, with the gunner in front and the pilot in back. It is equipped with two turbines Rolls-Royce Gem 2 Mark 1004D with 890 HPS built under license by Piaggio. The engines are separated by an armored firewall and have individual systems of fuel.

In 1990 the first 5 operational units were delivered to Italian Army after some delays in production, particularly in developing the missile system.

The A129 has hangers that allow the installation of a variety of weapons: rockets 3.19" or 2.75", anti-tank missiles BGM-71 TOW, Mistral air-to-air missiles and pods of 12.7 mm machine gun.

A129CBT
In 2002, Agusta was hired for an upgrade within 45 Italian A129 to version A129CBT, also known as A129 International. Upgraded version with: 5 blades main rotor, transmission systems, cannon of 20mm Oto Melara 197B installed in the nose, FLIR, addition of new navigation equipment and arms control with support for Hellfire and Stinger missiles.

Kit Italeri
The kit has two trees of green injected plastic with approximately 78 pieces and one with 1 pieces of transparencies. Decais bring two versions of the Italian army: Army Aviation Instruction Center - Viterbo 1998 (CAE) e 7° Army Aviation Regiment “VEGA” – Casarsa 1998.

I search on the two units. Through identification number I discovered that: the first version is from 1st Squadron "Auriga" of Center for Aviation Training in the Army in Viterbo (Army Aviation Instruction Center). The second version is from 5th Aviation Regiment of the Army "Rigel" based in Casarsa, not the 7th regiment.

The kit was assembled according to instructions, with modifications. He was painted with Humbrol paint and then applied matte varnish spray.
